Digital Threshold Exceeded!

Well, if you needed further proof of the growing popularity of TheWhippinpost, then yesterday was it.

Bandwidth Exceeded!

If you tried visiting here within the last 12 hours (or so), that's the welcome message you would've seen - Apologies.

Partly my fault as I had mis-interpreted the numbers: I'd been receiving warning messages from the host over the preceding couple of days and had been keeping an eye on the bandwidth numbers. Yesterday morning, I thought - judging by the daily averages - we might just be able to limp through to the end of the month, but alas... my brain had clearly not booted-up when I read those figures.

I set about trying to add more bandwidth the moment I discovered the horrifying welcoming message... and that's when the fun (always) begins, innit!

Knowledgebase offers 2 paragraphs:

• Alter bandwidth, or upgrade to next package.
• Then, unsuspend account and everything should rock.

An upgrade? With just over a day 'till the end of the month = overkill.

Alter bandwidth? H'yeah right... OK, Where? How?

Fire-off email... wait... wait more... go to bed!

Wake-up... Check email: Nothing!

Ooops! What's that in me pending folder there? WTF?! How come that never went out last night?!

Re-send.

... and here we are.

TBH,  I thought I was going to be embarrassed by the answer to: "... er, how do I add more bandwidth please?" As it turned out, the link I had (already) tried (the night before) to accomplish this task, was indeed b0rked.

To be fair, the host responded promptly once I actually managed to send the bleedin' email, which is comforting to know.

Simple is Hard

As is often the case when making music, doing DIY, writing tutorials etc... it's always the things that "should" be simple to do, that end up being the most frustrating.

Anyway, that concludes the non-music-making trivia you've just wasted your time reading - Hey, it's a blog! It's allowed once in a while!

Growing Pains

The good news (in a weird way), is that it serves to confirm that re-launching TheWhippinpost and getting more pro-active, was obviously the right thing to do. Before the revamp, TheWhippinpost had already outgrown its previous server. That was a trigger to find more capacity with another host and at the same time, overhaul the website to enable the ideas you see slowly rolling-out before you.

The result is that in just three short months, bandwidth has literally more than doubled because of significantly increased traffic, bo!

And there's still more to do... So with that said, I'd better get on with doing it!
